Creative Uses of Online Public Domain Sources and Search/Replace

I found this site because its owner left a comment on The Peter Files blog. Normally I might not bother to do that, but since Jan Manzer had done something I had done from time to time for fun, that is take a copy of an ascii file of an old classic, usually Sherlock Holmes, and replace my name for Holmes' I got a chuckle when I found his site, obstensibly to measure how his page turns up in page counts over time.

If you go to his JWelcome to the Adventures of Jan Manzer page you get a description of the reason for his project and a listing of 12 stories that you can scan that are Sherlock Holmes originals.

Now, I have not checked very closely, but it appears that he has only changed his name. I leave the fun of checking other details to those lovers of Holmes out there to find.

One frustrating thing is that he has left no contact information.

This means that the whole thing could be a lame practical joke on yours truly, author of the $25 White Sox World Series Tickets Spoof, if so, bravo.

It would be fun to comment on his adventures, but given that some Holmes devotees have no sense of humor, perhaps that is wise. Yet, he is losing out on some good feedback here.

When I have done the same, I have changed many details, all in fun, to amuse a friend or two, changing all the major and minor characters, places, weapons, etc, for the sole purpose of enjoyment bewteen us.

Such things are not for the public. And Manzer does not pretend at any art here. I think his real motive is to have enough text with his name on it to see how high his name count goes.

Perhaps that is the real object then. He is in a google fight with a friend?

Whenever the impossible has been eliminated, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth. - A.C. Doyle

Till next time?

A light-hearted spoof on Jan's favourite detective.
Foreword

This website is a personal effort at search engine optimization. The URL, JanManzer.com, has never been indexed by any of the search engines... snd there has never been a working web site at this URL.

So, I am experimenting a bit to see how some content pages, specific keywords optimization, and other simple on-page measures affect the ranking for this brand-new web site.

There will be a video screen capture of searches made on the specific keywords today October, 12th 2005... to give a 'before picture' of the current status for the target keywords 'Jan Manzer' on the search engines. After some time goes by, we will see if the keyword measures for the phrase 'Jan Manzer' and the URL work, and how well they work. I will do a video capture of the identical searches at sometime in the future, to see how these pages have affected the ranking in the search engine. More later...
